Operation Food Freedom Wageningen is open!
A group of six students/graduates of Wageningen University from various fields of study (plant science, food technology, nutrition and health, landscape architecture and organic agriculture) are connected by a single vision: food should be healthy, sustainable and fresh.
In early 2023 Hannah de Wit and Nina Oskam came in contact with Operation Food Freedom (a Local2Local initiative) to find out whether it would be possible to open a pickup point at Wageningen University. With help from the Local2Local-team and based on the experience of other OFF-locations they then took the necessary steps to make it happen.
“We strive to create a better food system, one where locality of produce is a key player in obtaining this. Shortening the food chain by connecting regional farmers and consumers is an ideal way of achieving this! Through OFF Wageningen we have bonded together to provide fresh food packages gathered from Local2Local’s network of Dutch farmers, creating a win-win situation for both farmer and consumer. And now we’re here, the first pickup day is upon us: Wednesday, November 8th!”
The students successfully campaigned on campus to reach the minimum amount of customers and they found the perfect location for the pickup point. Local2Local is very happy the way the students worked together, so we’re obviously very proud to announce the opening of OFF Wageningen!
How it works
You subscribe to 4 weekly deliveries of approximately 7.5-10 kg of vegetables, fruits and eggs for very little money, directly from the farmers, for just €17,50 per week. All the products for our customers are delivered in bulk to the OFF Wageningen location. Your order is sorted there, and when you come to pick it up every Wednesday afternoon (between 17:00 and 20:00), they will be put into your shopping bag.
